It’s been a hot minute since we’ve had a movie from action filmmaker Gareth Evans, who gave us two bone-breaking installments in “The Raid” saga and is reuniting with Netflix for his latest effort “Havoc” after working with them on the 2018 gothic folk horror film, “Apostle.” There is now a first-look trailer for the film that stars British actor Tom Hardy (“The Bikeriders”) in his role as Walker, a disillusioned detective who has to wade into the waters of the criminal drug underworld that lead to some unsettling and dangerous events.
Joining Hardy in this high-octane romp are Jessie Mei Li, Justin Cornwell, Quelin Sepulveda, Luis Guzmán, Michelle Waterson, Sunny Pang, Jim Caesar, Xelia Mendes-Jones, Yeo Yann Yann, Timothy Olyphant, and Forest Whitaker.
Evans, a modern champion of practical action sequences and stunts, not only directed the pic but wrote the screenplay, too.
A synopsis from Netflix for “Havoc” highlights the film’s dark and dangerous journey for Hardy’s Walker:
Walker (Tom Hardy) is a bruised detective fighting his way through the criminal underworld, threatening to engulf his entire city. In the aftermath of a drug deal gone wrong, Walker finds himself with a number of factions on his tail; a vengeful crime syndicate, a crooked politician, as well as his fellow cops. When attempting to rescue the politician’s estranged son, whose involvement in the drug deal starts to unravel a deep web of corruption and conspiracy, he is forced to confront the demons of his past.
Hardy recently wrapped up a trilogy of “Venom” solo films for Sony Pictures with other projects on the horizon, such as the Guy Ritchie series “The Associate” at Paramount+, a thriller titled “Blood On Snow” that co-stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson and was attached to “77 Blackout” alongside Mahersala Ali. Last year, the British actor downplayed the chances of reprising the Mad Max role for George Miller’s proposed third “Fury Road” movie, “The Wasteland.”
“Havoc” will be ready to stream for Netflix subscribers on April 25, and you can watch that action-packed trailer below.
