‘Hello, Privilege’ Trailer: Comedian Chelsea Handler Wants To Educate White People About Racism With New Netflix Doc

The world of stand-up comedy seems to be changing quite a bit in recent years. Thanks to a culture shift, what was usually acceptable on the stage is now being reprimanded, with comedians like Dave Chappelle, Louis CK, Aziz Ansari, and others feeling the effects of it over the last couple of years. Now, former talk show host/stand-up comedian, Chelsea Handler is here with a documentary that is going to tackle one of the biggest hot button issues in society — white privilege.

In the first trailer for “Hello, Privilege. It’s Me, Chelsea,” we see that Handler isn’t presenting a new topical stand-up routine. Instead, she’s creating a documentary where she explains the devastating effects of white privilege to the same folks that benefit from it, while also learning from People of Color about how this unfairness has affected their lives and communities. Yes, this is a far cry from “Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea,” the humorous memoir from a decade ago that really put Handler on the map.

Can Chelsea Handler educate the white masses about the inherent privilege given to them by the color of their skin? We will find out when “Hello, Privilege. It’s Me, Chelsea” arrives on Netflix on September 13.

Here’s the synopsis:

The pleasure is all Chelsea’s. “Hello, Privilege. It’s Me, Chelsea” follows comedian Chelsea Handler as she confronts and explores her personal and cultural impacts around white privilege. Handler travels around the country speaking with a wide range of people on the topic of race including fellow comedians Kevin Hart, Tiffany Haddish, and W. Kamau Bell, anti-racism writer and activist Tim Wise, a Republican women’s group in Orange County, CA, college students at an open mic night, and her former high school boyfriend in New Jersey.
