‘Highest 2 Lowest’ Teaser Trailer: Spike Lee’s A24 Cannes-Bound Ransom Thriller Stars Denzel Washington

Later this month, director Spike Lee (“Da 5 Bloods”) will be debuting his new film “Highest 2 Lowest” at the Cannes Film Festival. Which reunites him with actor and muse Denzel Washington, with Apple Original Films and A24 behind the modern remake of the Akira Kurosawa ransom thriller that was based on the Evan Hunter novel “King’s Ransom.”

The pic has landed a new first-look teaser trailer, as we’ll see the movie head to theaters in limited release thanks to A24 on August 22 and then stream exclusively on Apple TV+ on September 5. Washington plays a successful music mogul in the new incarnation from Lee as he’s thrust into an increasingly tense group of events leading to a ransom plot.

In supporting roles alongside Washington, we’ll see folks such as Oscar-nominee Jeffrey Wright (“American Fiction”), Ilfenesh Hadera (Lee’s “Oldboy” remake), rapper-turned-actor A$AP Rocky, and Ice Spice.

A synopsis for “Highest 2 Lowest,” courtesy of A24:

When a titan music mogul (Washington), widely known as having the “best ears in the business”, is targeted with a ransom plot, he is jammed up in a life-or-death moral dilemma. Brothers Denzel Washington and Spike Lee reunite for the 5th in their long working relationship for a reinterpretation of the great filmmaker Akira Kurosawa’s crime thriller “High & Low,” now played out on the mean streets of modern-day New York City.
