Director Hong Sang-soo has not just one, but two upcoming feature efforts with “What Does That Nature Say To You” and “The Day She Returns,” and wouldn’t you know it, they both have landed trailers that have made their way online.
If you’re not already aware, “What Does That Nature Say To You” is heading to the Lincoln Centre starting on February 27 after making the festival rounds last year (debuting last year at Berlinale), with a cast that features Ha Seongguk, Kang Soyi, Kwon Haehyo, Cho Yunhee, and Park Miso.

A synopsis for the pic (via The Film Stage): “Donghwa (Ha Seongguk) is a fledgling poet in his thirties. He rejects material aspirations and seeks to lead a life dedicated to truth and beauty. On a lazy afternoon, he drives his girlfriend, Junhee (Kang Soyi), back to her parents’ home outside Seoul. In the driveway, they run into her father (Kwon Haehyo), who is strangely interested in Donghwa’s dinged-up old car. He takes it for a spin around the block, then invites Donghwa to stay and meet the family: him, his wife (Cho Yunhee), who also writes poetry, and Junhee’s reclusive sister (Park Miso), who practices the gayageum, a traditional string instrument. They end up wiling away the day together, visiting a temple by the river, climbing the hill near the house, watching the sunset, and, sure enough, imbibing drinks. Egged on by Junhee’s dad, Donghwa gets progressively more drunk as the day advances. Finally, he makes a fool of himself at dinner. Then everything begins to unravel for the poet: his relationship, his art, his revolutionary ideals.”

That’s not all, as the Korean filmmaker also has “The Day She Returns” heading to the Berlin International Film Festival this month (takes place from February 12 to 22) for its world premiere, featuring a cast that includes Song Sunmi as Bae Jeongsu, Cho Yunhee as Kim Young, and Park Miso as Park Junhee. Sango-soo is putting on many hats for the new movie as writer, director, cinematographer, editor, and is also handling the film’s music.
The official logline for “The Day She Returns”: “After getting married, she gave up acting. Then, after getting divorced, she took it up again and starred in an independent film. Now, the film is about to be released, and she is giving interviews to support it. Having reached middle age, she is presenting her face to the world as an actor for the first time in a long while. She does three interviews at 30-minute intervals and tries to answer each question as best as she can. Later that day, her acting coach asks her to re-enact the interviews she did earlier. But every time she reaches the crucial parts, for some reason, she is unable to remember a thing. She is tired and wants to go home. Her daughter is waiting.”
