'Hope': Michael Fassbender & Alicia Vikander To Star In Na Hong-Jin's New Film

It’s been seven years since “The Light Between Oceans” debuted and saw Alicia Vikander act opposite Michael Fassbender. Since then, the duo has married in real life, but they have yet to reconnect on screen. Thankfully, Korean filmmaker Na Hong-Jin is going to fix that with his new film, “Hope.”

According to Deadline, Na Hong-Jin is set to direct a new film, “Hope,” which will star Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander. Interestingly, the film is set to be largely Korean-language with Fassbender and Vikander speaking English for their roles. “Hope” follows the story of the residents of a small harbor town who make a startling discovery on the outskirts of their land. That’s when things go south as the residents then have to fight for their survival against something they’ve never encountered before.

“Oftentimes, a person’s goodwill can lead to unintended catastrophe simply because of differences in perspective,” said Na Hong-Jin. “My hope for this film is to cinematically capture that phenomenon in a way that has yet to be seen.“

“Hope” marks the first film since 2016’s “The Wailing” for Na Hong-Jin. That film was a critical and financial success for the director. So, you can imagine fans are excited to see what he has coming up next.

Vikander is currently prepping for the release of her next feature, “Firebrand,” which is directed by Karim Aïnouz. Fassbender has two films on the horizon—the Taika Waititi-directed sports comedy, “Next Goal Wins,” as well as David Fincher’s thriller, “The Killer.”

It’s unclear when we might see “Hope” arrive in cinemas, but we’re definitely excited to see what Na Hong-Jin has up his sleeve.
