Got a Tip?

Howard Stern Producing ‘Rock N’ Roll High School’ Remake

Oh Howard, what are you thinking? Stern, the XM radio shockjock bully is co-producing a remake of the classic Ramones film, “Rock N’ Roll High School,” according to Variety.

Alex Winter, aka Bill from “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” who actually has a career as a director and writer outside that one hit wonder, has been hired to pen the script (he’s directed commercials, segments for Jimmy Kimmel’s show and the feature “Freaked” among other credits). Larry Levinson, the co-producer on the pic is also working with Stern on a remake of the ’80s R-Rated teen comedy, “Porkys.”

The original “Rock N’ Roll Highs School” musical comedy was produced by Roger Corman, featured The Ramones obviously and had blink or-you’ll-miss them appearances by The Germs’ Darby Crash and Lorna Doom who were extras in the film. The soundtrack featured a slate of Ramones tracks plus songs by Brian Eno, Devo, Alice Cooper, Todd Rundgren and Nick Lowe. The Stooges and The Velvets were featured in the movie, but not the disc.

Variety doesn’t say whether the movie will use Ramones songs or not, and we’ll assume they’ll throw in a nod or three, but our bet is it’ll be a whole new crop of presumably crappy songs and bands, or even worse, pointless Ramones covers.
