'Hypnotic': Ben Affleck To Star In New Thriller From Writer-Director Robert Rodriguez

Robert Rodriguez is moving on from this year’s “Alita: Battle Angel” and working on something a bit more realistic. But don’t worry, the director isn’t shedding his affinity for genre filmmaking in the upcoming project, “Hypnotic.” It’s just that he’s likely going to focus less on CGI characters and more on the flesh-and-blood variety, including Ben Affleck.

That’s right, according to Studio 8 and Solstice Studios, Affleck has signed on to star in Rodriguez’s next film “Hypnotic,” which the filmmaker co-wrote with his collaborator Max Borenstein (“Godzilla,” “Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” and “Kong: Skull Island”). The film is said to follow a detective (Affleck) that is investigating a series of seemingly impossible heists, while also dealing with the mystery surrounding his missing daughter and secret government organization. You know, as is the typical life of a police detective.

“Working with Ben on his award-winning projects, including ‘Argo’ and ‘The Town,’ I have seen how his versatility and creativity have made him one of the most talented filmmakers both in front of and behind the camera,” said Studio 8 CEO Jeff Robinov. “It’s very meaningful to be collaborating with Ben again on this uniquely riveting suspense thriller, and I know he and Robert will make a terrific film together.”

Affleck has a couple of films on his slate coming before he begins work on “Hypnotic.” He’s recently been named as a supporting actor in the upcoming Ridley Scott film “The Last Duel.” Affleck is also set to star opposite Ana de Armas in Adrian Lyne’s upcoming erotic thriller “Deep Water.”

No release date has been set for “Hypnotic,” but filming is said to commence in April 2020.
