'Color Out Of Space' Trailer: Richard Stanley Channels 'Mandy' With Nicolas Cage In This New Horror-Thriller

For many film fans, “Mandy” is the best performance from Nicolas Cage in years. The film perfectly utilized the manic sensibilities of the actor and created a horror-thriller that is unlike anything else. Next year, director Richard Stanley hopes to replicate the success of “Mandy” in the upcoming horror film “Color Out of Space.”

As seen in the first trailer for the HP Lovecraft adaptation, “Color Out of Space” tells the story of a man (Cage) that finds a meteorite that crashed in his yard. The rock is of unknown origins and is a mystery to those that attempt to study it. But when the rock mysteriously disappears and the world around him begins to be affected by the alien substance, the father must protect his family from whatever weird shit is beginning to happen. And we really do mean weird shit.

We were lucky enough to catch “Color Out of Space” when it debuted at this year’s TIFF, and in our review, we said, “Even if he’s not totally lucid about it, Stanley gives adventurous midnight-movie crowds enough to mull over while they’re having their hair blown back by an onslaught of light and sound.”

Joining Cage in the cast are Joely Richardson, Madeleine Arthur, Brendan Meyer, Julian Hilliard, Elliot Knight, Josh C. Waller, Q’orianka Kilcher, and Tommy Chong. The film marks the return to directing for Richard Stanley, who hasn’t directed a narrative feature since 1992’s “Dust Devil.” He’s probably best known for his 1990 directorial debut, “Hardwire.”

“Color Out of Space” is expected to arrive in theaters on January 24, 2020.

Here’s the synopsis:

After a meteorite lands in the front yard of their farm, Nathan Gardner (Nicolas Cage) and his family find themselves battling a mutant extraterrestrial organism as it infects their minds and bodies, transforming their quiet rural life into a living nightmare.
