A24 has unveiled the first trailer for “If I Had Legs I Would Kick You,” Mary Bronstein’s razor-sharp, darkly funny drama anchored by a Silver Bear–winning turn from Rose Byrne—a performance that’s already fueling awards-season chatter following its buzzy Sundance and Berlin premieres.

The film follows Linda (Byrne), a woman barely holding it together as her world spins further out of control. Faced with her child’s mysterious illness, an absent husband who’s all but vanished from her life, and the disturbing disappearance of a local woman, Linda also finds herself increasingly at odds with her therapist, played by Conan O’Brien in a deliciously unexpected, against-type role. Bronstein’s script threads these spiraling threads into an intimate, unnerving character study that blends tension, bleak humor, and emotional volatility.
The supporting cast is stacked: Danielle Macdonald, Christian Slater, and A$AP Rocky add sharp, offbeat texture to Linda’s unraveling reality. It’s a film that leans into discomfort, grounded by Bronstein’s intimacy and Byrne’s fearless performance.
“If I Had Legs I Would Kick You” premiered at Sundance to strong acclaim before heading to Berlin, where Byrne’s celebrated turn cemented the film as one of the year’s must-see titles. It’s now slated for stops at the Toronto and New York film festivals— a rarity for a movie to hit the premiere at the early festivals and still get invited to the fall ones six months later— further positioning it as a contender in the crowded fall slate.
A24 will release “If I Had Legs I Would Kick You” in theaters this October, bringing Bronstein’s vision and Byrne’s transformative performance to broader audiences. This one feels like essential viewing for anyone drawn to tense, character-driven storytelling and raw, human stakes. Watch the trailer below.
