IFC’s ‘Brockmire’ Already Renewed For Season 2

IFC announced this week that it has ordered a second season of the acclaimed comedy “Brockmire” starring Emmy Award-winning actor Hank Azaria and Amanda Peet. Initially created in 2010 by Azaria as a digital short for Funny or Die, the show was given a series order by IFC in 2016. The network shared the first episode online ahead of last night’s official premiere and gained over 2.3 million views.

“We love everything about Brockmire,” said Jennifer Caserta, the president of of IFC, “from the writing, to the cast, to all the sports puns we get to use.”

Owned by AMC Networks, IFC continues to distinguish and redefine its programming with offbeat comedies to compete with the superabundance of streaming services and diminishing cable viewers. And with “Portlandia” ending after 8 seasons, “Brockmire” is arriving at just the right time for the network. The show follows the titular major league baseball announcer who aims to rebuild his career after having a meltdown live on the air a decade earlier.

“Brockmire” made its series debut last night on IFC, and you can watch the first episode right here.
