Let’s face it—many of us, if not most of us, will never know what goes on behind the scenes of the high finance world (and maybe that’s a good thing). From nefarious business practices to loosened ethics, all underlined by a hellish brand of hedonism, this is a world reserved for the few. Thankfully, for those of us who wish to remain on the outside looking in yet are still morbidly curious, HBO’s “Industry,” a drama that follows a group of young graduates attempting to endure the choppy waters of the finance world as they fight to keep their jobs at an investment bank in London, is about to return for a second season.
The cast of “Industry” is headed by Marisa Abela, who stars as Yasmin Kara-Hanani, a bilingual graduate from a wealthy background, Myha’la Herrold as Harper Stone, a graduate from upstate New York who lies about where she graduated from, and Harry Lawtey as Robert Spearing, an Oxford graduate. Set a year after the initial peak of the pandemic, season two will find the young graduates keeping up with an economy trying to get back on track, with “back to work or else” mandates setting the tone for the finance world’s attitudes regarding a mass death event.
Released in late-2020, the first season of “Industry” featured episodes directed by Lena Dunham (Dunham actually directed the pilot episode), the mind behind “Girls,” and Tinge Krishnan, a doctor-turned-filmmaker. The show is created, written, and executive produced by the duo of Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, with writing assistance coming from Jami O’Brien.
The second season of “Industry” will premiere on August 1 on HBO and will be available for streaming on HBO Max. You can watch the teaser below:
