The Toronto Film Festival is coming next month and it is going to have a slew of international genre films screening there, some large and small. One that we’re certainly going to keep an eye on moving forward is Banjong Pisanthanakun‘s (“The Medium“) latest effort “Inherit,” a Thai horror tale making it’s premeire at TIFF, that features model/singer/actress Davika Hoorne playing a character that seemingly hasn’t aged after multiple decades.
With that, we can now share a first-look trailer for “Inherit” that comes to us via Screen Daily, and we’re taken back how the cinematography is beyond goregeous, almost having a bit of a fairytale quality to it. They’ve also provided a brief logline for the supernatural feature that also features Sinjai Plengpanich, Trin Settachoke and Warattaya Nilkuha among the cast.
Woranart (Hoorne), who returns home looking as young and beautiful as when she disappeared 50 years ago. However, she has not returned for a reunion with her wealthy family but as the vessel of an ancient centipede spirit, which seeks to pass its curse onto Woranart’s 18-year-old granddaughter, Oui (Baipor Thitiya Jirapornsilp).
The exciting hororr thriller is based on the Thai horror novel “Tayard Asoon” (aka, “Heir To The Beast“) penned by F.R. Black and the first book in the the “Fairy Godmother Inc.” series. It had been first published back in 1991 with television adaptations but this marks the feature iteration with a screenplay hailing from Banjong, Thamsatid Charoenrittichai, Chantavit Dhanasevi.
Barunson E&A, the South Korean studio behind the Best Picture Oscar-winning film “Parasite,” is set to oversee non-Asia sales, including North America, Europe, the Middle East, and various airlines. TIFF’s The Market is going be a new sales side of the festival, we’re sure that “Inherit” is going to get some serious love/offers from genre-friendly distributors such as NEON, A24, and MUBI.
Feel free to watch the tanlizing and visually striking new trailer for “Inherit,” and a post that comes to us from Thai outlet The Standard, where it is to make a theatrical debut on November 19 (we’ll have to wait to learn about a domestic date once the movie finds distribution partners).
