Got a Tip?

New Images From ‘The Irishman’ Show A Digitally Altered Robert De Niro Through The Decades

In the months of anticipation, leading up to this week’s world premiere at the New York Film Festival, a lot of discussion has happened about the de-aging technology used in “The Irishman.” We’ve seen bits and pieces of the footage that has been enhanced by the tech in the first trailer. But with a new set of images from the film, fans finally get their best look yet at Martin Scorsese’s use of de-aging with the film’s star, Robert De Niro.

Netflix has released four new images from “The Irishman,” and in each, Robert De Niro’s character is shown at various stages in his life. The first image shows him as a soldier in the army. The final image shows him as a white-haired old man, in the twilight of his life. And while the first image might look a bit…weird, there’s no denying that the hard work seems to have paid off as the other three images look really great and subtly show the effects of CGI on the actor’s face.

For those not aware, “The Irishman” tells the story of the life of a famous hitman, played by De Niro. The film traces his life (and subsequent crimes) through the various decades, culminating, as you can see, in the character’s elderly years. And with a run-time that is said to be 209 minutes, it appears that Scorsese isn’t holding back on any of the details, whatsoever.

As mentioned, the film is set to premiere at the NYFF later this week and will debut in select theaters on November 1. “The Irishman” will arrive on Netflix globally shortly thereafter on November 27.

A new trailer for the film is expected to drop later tonight, so we’ll make sure to share that with our readers the second it’s available.
