Got a Tip?

‘Iron Man 3’ Writer Drew Pearce Hired To Pen Third ‘Sherlock Holmes’ Movie

Drew Pearce has been having one helluva year. This man best known for his work on the U.K. superhero series “No Heroics” as well as penning the currently shelved Marvel flick “Runaways,” was tapped this spring to co-writeIron Man 3” with Shane Black. Paramount also snagged Pearce to adapt the DC ComicThe Mighty” as well. And the big jobs just keep on coming.

While we’re still a couple of months away from “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” THR reports that a confident Warner Bros. has hired Pearce to pen “Sherlock Holmes 3.” As you might remember, the studio pulled the same tactic before “Sherlock Holmes” came out, hiring Kieran and Michele Mulroney to write the followup before that movie hit theaters. And given RDJ’s clout, it’s likely he’s been digging Pearce’s ideas for “Iron Man 3,” especially after the actor recently revealed his disappointment with “Iron Man 2.”

This sense of inevitability seems to sweeping Hollywood, as DreamWorks hired John Gatins to write a “Real Steel” sequel in April. And while the domestic numbers for that film are less than thrilling — only $67 million despite two straight weekends at the top of the box office — internationally, the film is kicking ass and with more than $150 million worldwide, if the movie shows some legs, the studio will at least have a blueprint to get rolling on a followup. Additionally, Sony began talks with Steve Zaillian to write “The Girl Who Played With Fire” before David Fincher‘s “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” even started filming. It seems everyone likes to be prepared.

RDJ and Jude Law will get bromantic on December 16th. Whether or not it deserves another movie, we’ll just have to wait and see.
