Valentine’s Day is coming up, and Netflix is hoping that among their original content, you’ll want to curl up and chill with your special sweetheart and watch….a cancer rom-com? Uh, ok.
As befalls the fate of many Netflix original productions, “Irreplaceable You” is being marketed just a couple weeks out from release. The movie comes from director Stephanie Laing, veteran producer of “Eastbound & Down,” “Veep,” and “Vice Principals,” among others. She is making her feature debut with this picture. She rounds up Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Huisman, Christopher Walken, Kate McKinnon, Steve Coogan, Jacki Weaver, and Timothy Simons for this tale about a young woman who faces possibly life threatening cancer, and tries to help her partner prepare to find another woman before she dies. Romantic! Here’s the official synopsis:
Newly engaged Abbie (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) and Sam (Michiel Huisman) have been the love of each other’s lives since childhood. But when the future they envisioned together takes a tragic turn, their relationship is put to the ultimate test.
“Irreplaceable You” hits Netflix on February 16th.
