Isabel Lucas Leads Gale Edward’s Feel Good Musical Comedy ‘A Heartbeat Away’

Emmy Award winning Australian theater director Gale Edwards will make her directorial debut with “A Heartbeat Away,” starring ‘Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen” star Isabel Lucas.

The film is described as a feel good musical comedy and will center on an aspiring rock guitarist who is forced to take over the musical direction of his father’s marching band just four weeks before a major competition. Sebastian Gregory (“Acolytes,” “Accidents Happen”), Williams Zappa (“Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior,” “The Warrior”), Tammy Macintosh (“Better Than Sex”) and Colin Friels (“Malcolm,” “The Book of Revelation”). The film is produced by Chris Fitchet

“It’s a charming, funny and moving human story with some interesting deeper layers,” Edwards reveals. ‘And the cinematographic possibilities are exciting. The chance to tell this story through the medium of film, with a terrific cast of actors, is an enticing challenge. Music is very close to my own heart. This is a genre I love.”

Edwards is most famous for her revival of “Jesus Christ Superstar” which opened on Broadway in 2000 and won her an Emmy. She has also helmed such productions as “Jerry Springer: The Opera” starring David Wenham as Springer, “Boy From Oz,” “Sweeney Todd” and a host of Shakespeare adaptations.

Filming began this week in Brisbane, Australia with an eye for a 2011 theatrical release.
