Got a Tip?

‘The Italian Job’ Shifts Gears Into A “Noisy, Sexy” TV Series

This is starting to be a problem. At this rate, TV networks should run out of movies to reboot in about a week. Adding to the issue is NBC, which just began work on a TV series based on “The Italian Job.” The TV series will be loosely based on the 1969 film and the 2003 remake.

“The Italian Job” TV series will follow a make-shift family of criminals that come out of retirement for one more job, which is to rescue their leader out of jail. The series is being described as “a noisy, sexy, thrill-ride.” It’s clear NBC is hoping “The Italian Job” can capture the same audience that has made “Fast and Furious” a household name. But certainly, sustaining those thrills on a weekly basis will be a challenge, and expensive, depending on how much spectacle they want in this thing.

The pilot will be written and produced by Rob Weiss, who is best known for HBO’sEntourage” and “Ballers.” Joining him will be producer Benjamin Brand from IFC’sBollywood Hero” and executive producer Donald De Line, who produced the 2003 remake.

So, join us tomorrow to find out what other films will be soon rebooted as a TV series! And I guess this means any hopes of a sequel to F. Gary Gray‘s movie are finally no more. [Deadline]
