Got a Tip?

James Cameron, Creator Of Cyborgs And Blue Aliens, Calls ‘Aquaman’ Unrealistic

When asked about the blockbuster that is the recent movie “Aquaman,” James Cameron had quite a few things to say. The Oscar-winning creator of such favorites like “Titanic” and others including “Avatar” and the upcoming “Alita: Battle Angel” was asked by EW about his thoughts on the new DC superhero movie. While he tried his hardest to compliment the film, his ‘dedication to realism’ apparently won out.

“I think its great fun,” Cameron told EW. “I think its a movie I could have never made …people just kind of zoom around underwater because…they propel themselves mentally? I guess? I don’t know. But it’s cool. You buy it on its own terms. But I’ve spent thousands of hours underwater. I’m very literal about my underwater. It needs to look like it’s real. And while I can enjoy that film I don’t resonate with it because it doesn’t look real.”

Alright, we’ll give it to Cameron that he does know his underwater stuff. “Titanic” was a masterpiece and his work with National Geographic and his deep sea footage is mind-bogglingly amazing, but it seems like Cameron is forgetting how fantasy works. He is the one that created the world of giant blue aliens with nerve endings in their hair, and his newest film he is producing, ‘Alita,’ has so much CGI just looking at the character gives the audience a sense of surrealism. And of course, Cameron has to finish it off with one more criticism.

“And by the way, [‘Aquaman’] doesn’t help us with our issues of actually understanding the ocean and exploring the ocean and preserving the ocean – though they did throw in a couple things like whales and things like that to remind us we are using the ocean as a garbage dump, so I applaud the film for that. Yeah, I couldn’t have made that movie. We’re doing a lot of underwater in the Avatar sequels and it’s going to have such a different feel.”

Based on his comments, just imagine how “Aquaman” would’ve turned out if Cameron did direct it. Also, imagine what those “Avatar” sequels are going to be like when they come around.
