James Wan Teaming With 'John Wick' Writer Derek Kolstad For Sci-Fi Time Travel Movie 'Hunting Season'

Despite the wide Hollywood shutdown, some filmmakers are scheduling enough projects to keep themselves busy for years and years to come. One of them, who seems to be announcing more projects during the quarantine than before it, is James Wan.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wan will team up with “John Wick” writer, Derek Kolstad to adapt the time travel story “Hunting Season,” written by Frank M. Robinson way back in 1951. Per THR, the story follows “a law officer from the future who is declared an enemy of the state and sentenced to be executed by that society’s method of choice: sent to the past where they are stalked by a posse. The man has three days to acclimate to our time and find a way to survive.” THR also described the project as reminiscent of “1984,” “Fahrenheit 451,” and “The Running Man.” “Hunting Season” will be produced by Wan, Michael Clear, Susan Monford and Don Murphy.

Robinson primarily wrote short techno-thriller stories for several pulp publications in the mid-20th century. Perhaps the best-known adaptation of his work took parts of his thriller “The Glass Inferno” to make the classic 1974 disaster film “The Towering Inferno.”

As for Wan, the filmmaker is keeping busy during the quarantine. He is not only preparing to go back underwater for the “Aquaman” sequel, but also finishing his return to horror with “Malignant” and his recently announced monster movie, all while producing the latest installment of “The Conjuring,” “There’s Someone Inside Your House” for Netflix, and an adaptation of Stephen King’s “Salem’s Lot.”
