Janelle Monae Joins Rian Johnson’s All-Star Cast For ‘Knives Out 2’

As happened previously when the original “Knives Out” was gearing up for production, we’re beginning to see a slow trickle of casting information regarding who is going to show up in the highly-anticipated sequel. We’ve already learned that Edward Norton and Dave Bautista are likely joining the cast of Rian Johnson’s whodunnit film, but now it appears Janelle Monae is on board, as well.

According to THR, Janelle Monae is the latest actress to join the growing, star-studded cast of Rian Johnson’s untitled “Knives Out” sequel that is set to arrive on Netflix. There are no plot details revealed just yet, but we know that Daniel Craig is set to return as Benoit Blanc in the upcoming sequel, where presumably he’ll have to solve a crime with a wide array of A-listers playing the suspects. Considering the previous film included a cast filled with folks like Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Christopher Plummer, Michael Shannon, and Toni Collette, Johnson has quite the challenge ahead of him if he wants to outdo himself for the sequel.

Monae is probably best known for her musical endeavors, but over the past several years, she’s started to make a big name for herself in films and TV series. She really broke out as part of the cast of “Hidden Figures.” From there, she’s landed lead roles in the Amazon series, “Homecoming,” as well as the recent thriller, “Antebellum.”

Johnson is prepping to begin work on the sequel to “Knives Out,” which is the first in a two-feature deal with Netflix that is said to be worth nearly half a billion dollars. The first film earned more than $300 million worldwide off of a $40 million budget and resulted in a ton of awards recognition for the cast and crew. Netflix is clearly hoping “Knives Out” spawns a big must-see franchise for the streaming service. And so far, the casting for the new film is starting to prove to make good on that promise.
