Originally, Jared Leto’s debut in the world of Marvel superheroes, in Sony’s upcoming film, “Morbius,” was supposed to happen last summer. Unfortunately, COVID-19 happened and the film has faced multiple delays, now putting the release in January 2022. And judging by a new interview with Variety, the actor is probably enjoying the breather between the production and the film’s release, as he explained how this new ‘Spider-Man’ spinoff film has been one of the more stressful productions he’s been part of.

“It’s a pressure cooker,” Leto said about working on a Marvel film. “You have a clock ticking. They’re expensive films. And so, all of the decisions and the time to make those decisions are a little bit more heated and so it can be a little more stressful. I think it’s more common with these big movies, you don’t really start with a gem of a script.”
He added, “You start with a hope and a dream and an idea of something. And you all try to work as hard as you can, in this given amount of time, to make it as good as it can be. And I think it’s the first time I’ve ever starred in a big movie like this in my entire career, so it was new territory. I generally hide out in the shadows.”

Though tackling a Marvel role is new territory for the actor, Leto also admitted that in some ways, the character he plays in “Morbius” is actually one of the closest to how he actually acts than other characters in his career.
“It was hard for me in some way, because I’m not used to playing roles that are a little bit closer to who I am, day in and day out,” he said. “Dr. Michael Morbius is a little closer to the way that I talk and the way that I behave.”
Of course, we’re going to take this to mean that Leto is, in fact, a “living vampire” that feeds on the lifeforce of others and uses his special abilities to fight bad guys. Or maybe, he just means that the moody, brilliant scientist type that has long dark hair and wears a lot of black clothing is just a person that he relates to more than his role in “Blade Runner 2049” or the new film, “The Little Things?” We’ll let you decide.
“Morbius” is set to arrive in theaters on January 21, 2022.
