Jared Leto Talks 'Suicide Squad' Method Acting Stories

When “Suicide Squad” arrived last summer, one of the big talking points was Jared Leto‘s weird dedication to playing the Joker. Going full Daniel Day-Lewis, the word was that the actor embodied the character to the point of irritation for his castmates. Leto himself fuelled the fire by saying he sent anal beads and used condoms as “gifts” to his co-stars, with Viola Davis saying she wanted to pepper spray the actor because of his antics. But that’s not all.

Just after the film was released, Leto started lamenting about the scenes that were cut, claiming there was enough material for a whole other movie (which he’ll get with the developing Joker and Harley Quinn spinoff). It was enough that people started to wonder if he was not happy working on the movie, however, Leto says it was all blown out of proportion.

Calling into Australia’s “Kyle and Jackie O” radio show, the actor weighed e his passion for the character, as well as the wild stories about his conduct on the set.

“There’s so much, and so much bullshit around that. I think it’s just a fun thing to talk about. Even when the movie came out, there was so much misrepresentation about what went down, about the method acting crap. 90% of it was not even true. It just takes on a life of its own,” Leto said. “It was an incredible experience, everybody was amazing, Margot Robbie is one of the nicest people, one of the best actresses I’ve ever worked with, and I really loved working with her. I thought the scenes and what we did together was some of the most fun I’ve ever had on a set before. Everything’s great in that world and I’m really proud to be a part of it.”

Well, that certainly clears things up about Leto’s commitment to playing the Joker. Whether or not he goes shopping again for disturbing presents for his castmates again, we’ll soon find out. [via Screen Rant]
