Ok, so there’s a lesbian kiss in “Jennifer’s Body,” between Amanda Seyfried and Megan Fox’s characters, pictured here (Fox’s demonically possessed character looks pale and sickly because — small spoiler alert — whenever she hasn’t fed on teenage boys, she starts to slowly die; no seriously).
When the kiss itself was confirmed, we thought it a little lame, because one, it wasn’t in Diablo Cody’s original script (sure, it was hinted and teased at, but wisely not consummated), and it just felt gratuitous and titillating the same way that “I Kissed A Girl” by Katy Perry has become sort of misappropriated as a frat-boy anthem (or at least they surely encourage this song to be played at drunken keggers).
And perhaps the actresses feel the same way? “We rolled our eyes at the idea of having to make out”, Seyfried told Entertainment Weekly in their Fall preview issue (which of course is not online yet).
Apparently that kiss, which the trailer hints at, is kind of a key point in selling the film. “We knew that it was going to play a really big role in publicizing the film,” Seyfried said.
Adam Brody, who plays an emo-rocker who sells his soul to Satan to get famous, says at least the scene is hot. “What’s funny is that director Karyn Kusama (“Aeon Flux”) made it more sexual than it could have been. She really made it more… erotic, if you will. It’s got a feminine touch.”
Kusama didn’t direct episodes of the “L Word” for years for nothin’, dude. So, a selling point to some readers surely, and a well-that’s-kind-of-lame thought from others. Probably doesn’t matter as long as asses are in seats. “Jennifer’s Body” hits theaters September 18 and it will make its world debut at the Toronto International Film Festival as part of the Midnight Madness section.
Btw, the film’s veritable theme song, “Through The Trees,” is online or at least parts of it. The song in the script is said to be a cheesy and cornball rock-anthem ala Creed or Nickelback written by Adam Brody’s group called Low Shoulder (Soft Shoulder in the original script) and that’s pretty much what we get, but it’s a little bit more em0-lite than it is throaty and gruff like the aforementioned rockers. You can listen to it here around the 4:55 mark. Remember it’s meant to be bad (unlike say the Cobra Starship songs in the film; that band is just regular awful). The band is also included on the soundtrack that hits on August 25.
