Jeremy Renner's Arms In 'Tag' Are CGI Due To On-Set Injury

About a year ago, word got out that Jeremy Renner had an on-set accident that resulted in fractures in his arms. At the time, early speculation was that Renner hurt himself on the set of “Avengers: Infinity War.” However, in July, the actor confirmed that somehow the injuries happened on another film, which many deduced was the upcoming comedy “Tag.” Now, we have the full story (kinda) from one of his “Tag” co-stars Jon Hamm.

In an appearance on “Ellen,” Hamm talks about when Renner hurt himself:

“Jeremy Renner who broke both of his arms at the same time. Day three of production. We had 40 more days to go. Keep in mind this is a man who’s done a hundred ‘Avengers’ movies and been fine. And he does a movie about playing tag… both arms, like firewood, just snapped like a matchstick.”

Of course, with a movie like “Tag,” where grown men play a three-decades-long version of the children’s game, arms are important assets. But never fear! Hamm confirmed that Renner’s injury didn’t stop production at all. In fact, thanks to some movie magic, audiences won’t even be able to tell.

“No, he wore greenscreen casts that were eventually painted out in the edit,” explained Hamm.

So, there you have it. Apparently, Renner can be a member of the Avengers, but a simple game of tag can result in two broken arms. Yeah, Hawkeye doesn’t stand a chance against Thanos. Sorry, Universe, we’re all screwed.

Hamm and Renner star alongside Ed Helms, Jake Johnson, Isla Fisher, Hannibal Buress, and Rashida Jones in the upcoming comedy film, based on a real-life group of friends and their epic game of tag, which is scheduled to hit theaters June 15.
