Jeremy Renner Will Continue To Play Hawkeye In The MCU Until He “Can’t Fit Into The Damn Costume”

After “Avengers: Endgame,” it appeared that many of the elder statesmen of the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be taking a backseat to let the new heroes gain the spotlight. Robert Downey, Jr. is gone. Chris Evans is most likely done as Captain America. And Scarlett Johansson had her “Black Widow” swansong. But Jeremy Renner isn’t going anywhere. That is, as long as Marvel Studios will keep him around as Hawkeye.

Speaking to The New York Times, Jeremy Renner talked about his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And unlike some of his other co-stars, he’s not anxious to leave his superhero days in the past. He’s ready for many more adventures as the sharpshooting Avenger.

“I can make that live for another decade,” Renner said. “Until I just can’t fit into the damn costume anymore.”

Actually, it’s not just his role as Hawkeye that he’ll keep doing for an indefinite period of time. Renner also doesn’t see himself stepping away from acting anytime soon—again, as long as people will have him.

He added, “I’ll do it till no one wants to see me do it.”

Obviously, Renner’s time as Clint Barton is still going strong, as he is one of the leads of the new “HawkeyeDisney+ series, starring opposite Hailee Steinfeld. But judging from his comments, we can assume the series isn’t serving as a passing of the torch, with Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop taking over the Hawkeye mantle. Maybe, like the comics that inspired it, the MCU is big enough for two Hawkeyes roaming around?

“Hawkeye” debuts on Disney+ on November 24.
