Scarlett Johansson Thinks Her Disney Lawsuit Had A "Positive Impact" As New Secret Marvel Project Is Teased

One of the biggest news items of 2021 was when Scarlett Johansson took on Disney over a contract dispute regarding the release of “Black Widow” this summer. The lawsuit was the first major attempt by an actor to publicly fight back against a studio that took a film and released it straight on streaming instead of exclusively in theaters. The matter was settled out of court in an undisclosed agreement, but many wondered if the lawsuit permanently sullied her relationship with Disney and its Marvel Studios subsidiary. Well, apparently not.

Speaking to THR, Scarlett Johansson talked about the fallout of her lawsuit against Disney. And she thinks that ultimately, it was a net positive not just for her but for the industry at large.

“It was a very surreal time because, of course, the film had come out and was hugely successful and that was a big celebration. I had a baby and that was obviously a life-changing, amazing, celebratory thing,” said Johansson. “In a way, that sort of buoyed me through the very uncertain, stressful time. I feel mostly very fortunate that nobody will have to go through what I went through and that it’s made, I think, a positive impact in the industry and hopefully for artists and creatives’ lives and livelihood.”

She added, “I have had some of the best times of my career working for both of those studios. I feel really excited that I get to continue my work with Disney and with my Marvel family.”

We already know that her relationship with Disney is still going strong, as she is set to appear in the upcoming “Tower of Terror” film for the studio. And according to Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios boss, Johansson is teaming up with the studio on “another non-Black Widow-related top-secret Marvel Studios project with her as a producer.”

What that film could be is anyone’s guess. If it is truly non-Black Widow-related, then it could possibly be the rumored female-led team-up film, commonly referred to as “A-Force.” Perhaps, Feige is being cagey with his response and it’s the next project starring Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova character and it won’t actually be called “Black Widow.” We’ll just have to wait and see.
