Jesse Plemons, Cristin Milioti and Jimmi Simpson Salute ‘USS Callister’s’ Emmy Haul

Netflix earned a record number of Emmy nominations this year, but one achievement the streaming service earned has sort of been overlooked.  “Black Mirror’s USS Callister” has earned more Emmy nominations this year than any other TV movie.  That’s one reason why Netflix reunited stars Jesse Plemons, Cristin Milioti and Jimmi Simpson to celebrate the 7 nominations in an evening reception on the Sunset Strip.  A reception with press and industry followed.

“USS Callister” is hoping to give “Black Mirror” a repeat win in the Outstanding Television Movie category after “San Junipero” won last year.  It faces stiff competition, however, from HBO’s “The Tale” and “Paterno.”  The celebrated “Callister” also earned nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie (Plemons), Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series (a category “San Junipero” also won), Movie or Dramatic Special and Outstanding Cinematography for a Limited Series or Movie.

Simpson also starred in “Westworld” which is up for Outstanding Dramatic Series and will next be seen in David Robert Mitchell’s “Under the Silver Lake.”  Plemons, who was nominate for his work on “Fargo,” recently wrapped Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman” and is currently filming “The Jungle Cruise” alongside Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson.

“Black Mirror” creator Charlie Booker confirmed a fifth season of the series began shooting in March, but Netflix has not announced a release date as of yet.
