Despite there still being no plot details or even a title for it yet, David O. Russell‘s new film continues to attract top tier talent. The latest casting news for the film includes John David Washington, and three-time Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki is also on board.
Deadline has the scoop on the casting news on John David Washington joining David O. Russell’s still-untitled film for New Regency. Though we don’t have any plot details yet, the project is reportedly based on an original idea from the writer-director-producer who hasn’t made a new film since 2015’s “Joy.”
Last we heard, Michael B. Jordan had joined the previously announced cast that included Christian Bale and Margot Robbie, but Variety reports that Jordan is no longer involved in the film, with Washington presumably taking over the role. Still, this remains one hell of a triple-threat cast, and with Lubezki on board, we can at least count on the film to look outstanding, even if we still have no idea what it’s going to be about.
John David Washington’s big-screen breakout came in 2018 with Spike Lee‘s “BlackKklansman” and was most recently seen in Christopher Nolan‘s latest blockbuster “Tenet,” where he — and this bears repeating, plays a character literally credited as “Protagonist.” He’ll also star alongside Zendaya in the upcoming “Malcolm & Marie” black-and-white drama by Sam Levinson.
Deadline also reports that the film will start shooting in Los Angeles this January, after being delayed from a reported April production start. Regardless, with this cast and crew, we can’t think of a reason not to see it whenever it becomes available.
