'Jolt' Trailer: Kate Beckinsale Returns To R-Rated Action With A Revenge Thriller Coming To Amazon On July 23

British actress Kate Beckinsale has been synonymous with action flicks most of her career and likely first became aware to American audiences thanks to her leading role in the Michael Bay WWII film “Pearl Harbor” opposite Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett. She then led the successful R-rated “Underworld” franchise as the heroic vampiress badass Selene, coming slightly after the era of “Blade” and “The Matrix.” Other various projects included the Hugh Jackman monster hunter film “Van Helsing” and Len Wiseman-directed “Total Recall” remake starring Colin Farrell

Beckinsale is now back with her latest action flick, “Jolt,” directed by Tanya Wexler (“Hysteria“), and Amazon Prime Video has released a trailer as it’s set to be released next month.

Lindy (Beckinsale) is a beautiful, sardonically funny woman with a painful secret: Due to a lifelong, rare neurological disorder, she experiences sporadic rage-filled, murderous impulses that can only be stopped when she shocks herself with a special electrode device. Unable to find love and connection in a world that fears her bizarre condition, she finally trusts a man long enough to fall in love, only to find him murdered the next day. Heartbroken and enraged, she embarks on a revenge-filled mission to find his killer while also being pursued by the police as the crime’s prime suspect.

A concept that sounds like they’re making a reverse version of Jason Statham‘s “Crank: High Voltage.” Hopefully, it doesn’t get lost in the shuffle with Netflix releasing their own female-led action movies with Karen Gillan‘s “Gunpowder Milkshake” and Mary Elizabeth Winstead‘s Tokyo-set “Kate.”

“Jolt”s stellar supporting cast consists of Stanley Tucci (“Spotlight,” “The Hunger Games,” “The King’s Man“) as Lindy’s therapist, Bobby Cannavale (“Boardwalk Empire,” “The Irishman“), Laverne Cox (“Promising Young Woman“), Jai Courtney (“The Suicide Squad,” “Jack Reacher“), David Bradley (“Game of Thrones,” “Harry Potter“), Ori Pfeffer (“Hacksaw Ridge“), and Susan Sarandon (“The Hunger,” “Thelma & Louise“).

The R-rated action pic will hit Prime Video on July 23.
