Jordan Peele is one of the best filmmakers working today. And even though he only has two features under his belt as a director, that statement is far from hyperbolic. Much like folks like Robert Eggers and Ari Aster, Peele has proven over an incredibly short time that he is a filmmaker that we all have to pay attention to after the massive successes of “Us” in 2019 and “Get Out” in 2017 (which earned him an Oscar). And though we have yet to hear details of a new film by the director, it would appear that he’s got something up his sleeve coming sooner than we thought.

According to a report from Deadline, an “Untitled Jordan Peele Project” from Universal is one of several features to get approved by the state of California for tax credits. In fact, Peele’s project is set to earn approximately $8.3 million in tax credits, if applicable. But budgetary concerns aside, we still have no idea what this film might be. We know that Peele is very tight-lipped when it comes to his features. For months, we only knew the title and cast for “Us” without knowing a single thing about the premise. And the only reason we knew more about “Get Out” is the fact that it had a festival premiere and built buzz organically before anyone had any clue that film was going to be a cultural phenomenon.
All that to say, just because we know Jordan Peele is working on something, we can’t even begin to guess what it might be. Between all his various producing credits on series and films such as the just-premiered “Lovecraft Country” and the upcoming “Candyman,” for example, we have a difficult enough time trying to keep track of what carries his name nowadays.
Regardless, it appears he’s teaming up with Universal for a feature film that is beginning to shoot soon. If that’s the case, we might be graced by a new Jordan Peele film in 2021. Fingers crossed!
