Josh Brolin Says He “So Wanted” To Be Part of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ But The MCU Is A “Complex Labyrinth”

When the highly-anticipated blockbuster superhero film “Deadpool & Wolverine” slashes its way into theatres this July, fans can expect to see the nostalgic return of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and probably a whole ton of cameos, if the rumors and meta trailer jokes are any indication. However, as already reported, one character that viewers may have wanted to see but sadly won’t be in the anticipated blockbuster is Josh Brolin’s Cable, who previously appeared in “Deadpool 2.”

Brolin’s absence from the film is already known; he was never reported as part of the film, and there’s no trace of him in any of the recent trailers; he even joked that he had beef with “Deadpool” star Ryan Reynolds. The reason for his absence has been kept vague so far. However, we spoke to Brolin recently for the Bingeworthy TV podcast about the upcoming second season of “Outer Range.” While the actor didn’t necessarily shed new light on why his character is missing in the new film, the actor submitted that even he’s not clear on why his Cable character didn’t return for the third ‘Deadpool’ film. He also suggested the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s inner workings remain a mystery, despite already playing Thanos in the “Avengers” films.

Bingeworthy host Mike DeAngelo joked that since Brolin was listed on the film’s IMDb page, he must be in the movie, to which the actor quipped back in mock delight.

“Am I? Yeeeesssss! I so wanted to be in that movie,” he laughed, suggesting that the secretive Marvel Studios never really tipped what the plan was or why he wasn’t part of the third film.

“[Marvel] is a more complex labyrinth than ‘Outer Range’ will ever be, my friend,” he explained about the studio’s mysterious inner workings. “And I will never know where that went or what that is or what I’m involved with or what I’m not involved with —the MCU being involved now. Cable was a lot of fun. I really liked doing that role. That was a lot of fun.”

Brolin, however, seemed to hold no ill will toward anyone involved, saying he’s a big fan of Jackman and seemingly sounds like he’s looking forward to “Deadpool & Wolverine” despite missing out on the third installment.

Hugh [Jackman], I’m absolutely in love with,” he exclaimed. “I know Ryan [Reynolds] now, and I’ve met Hugh a couple of times, and I think when he did ‘Logan’—forget it! I mean, Scott Frank, who wrote it, is a good friend of mine and I just think the coming together of [these characters] is just fantastic. And Hugh, I don’t know how old Hugh is now—is he 56, 57? I mean, seriously, the dude doesn’t age. So, yeah. I’m a big fan of his.”

Pressed for time, that’s all Brolin would share, but we’ll have more from this conversation soon. “Outer Range” season two is scheduled to debut on May 16, 2024 on Prime Video.
