Karan Soni Says 'Deadpool 3' "Takes Full Advantage" Of MCU

Promoting his new “A Nice Indian Boy” film at SXSW, actor Karan Soni—who plays Wade Wilson’s loyal pal and cab driver Dopinder in the “Deadpool” movies—dished some fun details about “Deadpool & Wolverine,” and previous iterations of the film. While speaking to Screen Rant, the actor reminded everyone that, at one point, “Deadpool 3” was meant to be a Christmas movie.

“It was originally a road trip movie where Deadpool tries to save Christmas, so we all go to the North Pole,” Soni disclosed at a screening for his SXSW movie. While this may sound shocking, Ryan Reynolds himself revealed this tidbit of information during the pandemic in 2022, so clearly, he wasn’t just goofing around.

Soni also divulged additional bits about “Deadpool & Wolverine” while chatting with Collider, revealing that the MCU movie will make jokes at the expense of Marvel’s Kevin Feige.

“There’s a lot of Kevin jokes [in the movie]. You have to have a good sense of humor, and he does. So that’s cool,” Soni said of the way the meta superhero movie pokes fun at the head of Marvel Studios. It’s something that already occurred in the finale of “She-Hulk,” too, when Jennifer Walters also attempted to (literally) break the fourth wall, much like Reynolds’ Wade Wilson character trademark direct address.

Soni added that the new film is “taking full advantage of the MCU and playing with all the toys.” He also mentioned that the R-rated superhero pic “feels like it’s coming at a perfect time for the MCU because it’s ready for a little bit of a shake-up, and he’s definitely shaking it up.” Given that recent Marvel projects have been a mixed bag with audiences, there is a huge weight on the shoulders of “Deadpool & Wolverine” to deliver the goods and perform at the box office.

The film is expected to include previous characters from the “X-Men” films, but how the sequel informs the upcoming Mutant reboot outside of Wade joining Earth-616 remains a mystery. “Deadpool & Wolverine” will slash its way to the big screen on July 26, and then we should get a better idea of how the merc-with-a-mouth will join the greater universe of heroes.
