Update: Uh, holy shit. Deadline reports that Aaron Paul, Michael Pena, Teresa Palmer and Gal Gadot are all on board, so too is the previously reported Michael B. Jordan. Open Road will release the film in 2015.
While John Hillcoat hasn’t had a problem attracting names to his upcoming cop thriller “Triple Nine,” there’s been a problem with them sticking. Shia LaBeouf, Charlie Hunnam, Michael B. Jordan, Cate Blanchett and Christoph Waltz have all been linked at various times only to fall away, but like we said, finding replacements hasn’t been a problem.
Variety reports that Kate Winslet is in talks for the movie, which still has the recently-added Casey Affleck and Chiwetel Ejiofor attached. And hot damn, that is a helluva trio for this gritty tale. Penned by Matt Cook, the story centers on a group of crooked L.A. police officers who realize they must shoot one of their own in order to get away with planning a major heist. They choose as their victim a rookie and honorable young officer, but what they don’t know is that another cop has infiltrated the gang, and is working on a setup. No word yet on Winslet’s part, but we presume (and really hope) she’s taken Blanchett’s old role as a mobster’s wife who’s behind the whole thing.
No word yet on when this will shoot, but we’d guess it’ll probably depend on locking down the cast first.
