Got a Tip?

Katherine Waterston Is Still Under Contract For ‘Fantastic Beasts’ But Believes “That Ship Has Sailed”

People absolutely adore the “Harry Potter” film franchise. But people were not huge fans of the spinoff film series, “Fantastic Beasts.” So much so, the films probably won’t have a conclusion, as the final two films are seemingly not going to be made. At least, that’s what Katherine Waterston believes.

Speaking to NME, Katherine Waterston was asked about the future of the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise. The actor explained that she believes the final two films “probably won’t get made.”

“The last two films probably won’t get made, but that’s only based on a gut feeling,” Waterston said. “I know nothing and I’d probably be one of the last to know if something was happening because with films of that size, people aren’t calling up the performers to keep them updated.”

She added, “Do contracts expire? I’ve never thought about that before, but they probably do at some point, right? At the moment we are bound to them but I think that ship has sailed.”

Why did Warner Bros. not continue the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise? Well, the third film, ‘The Secrets of Dumbledore’ only earned $407 million worldwide, with North America only accounting for about $95 million of that total. Considering the massive heights of the “Harry Potter” franchise, this performance was nothing short of disastrous for WB. When you take into account ‘Dumbledore’ only received 46% on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s clear the franchise was in trouble. Now, it’s been a couple of years since that film has been released, and the only real “Harry Potter” project being worked on now is the TV reboot of the franchise.

But hey, actors are still under contract, so it would appear that a sequel could get made. Let’s be real though, that’s never going to happen.
