There are not many franchises that have a steeper drop off in quality than “Speed.” The first film is a fun, somewhat silly romp that boosted the star power of both Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. The second film, “Speed 2: Cruise Control,” is, well, not good. Worse than that, it’s often used as a cautionary tale about what not to do with a sequel. That said, it appears both Reeves and Bullock are interested in teaming up again, and Reeves thinks they’d redeem the “Speed” franchise.
In a joint interview on the 50MPH podcast, Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock talked about their desire to work on a new film together. And for Reeves, he believes it could be “Speed 3.”
“I mean, you know — we’d freakin’ knock it out of the park,” said Reeves about the potential sequel.
Bullock, for her part, doesn’t add much about a “Speed 3” possibility but definitely would love to work with Reeves on something in the future.

“Before I die, before I leave this planet, I do think that Keanu and I need to do something in front of the camera,” she said. “Are we, you know, in wheelchairs or with walkers? Maybe. Are we on little scooters at Disneyland?”
Reeves replied, “It does feel like there is a siren call to it, like there’s something that wasn’t done. I would love to work with you again before our eyes close.”
Honestly, with how Hollywood works, it would be shocking if rumors of a “Speed 3” didn’t grow in light of these comments. The industry loves a revival franchise. Or perhaps just plop the “Speed” duo of Reeves and Bullock into something involving cars and speed that is already popular. That’s right, we’re talking “Fast & Furious on Speed.” Let’s make it happen!
In the meantime, it looks like we’ll just have to be grateful for the one good “Speed” film that we got, and not wish for another legacy sequel. We’ve probably had too many of those as it is now.
