'The Killing Of Two Lovers' Trailer: A Man Does Whatever It Takes For His Family In NEON's Sundance Standout

A failing marriage has been fodder for films for decades. The drama that erupts between former lovers-turned-enemies can be captivating if handled well, as we saw in last year’s “Marriage Story.” But the upcoming film, “The Killing of Two Lovers,” looks at the dark side of a failing marriage and what might happen if a man is pushed to the limits to save his family.

As seen in the trailer, “The Killing of Two Lovers” follows the story of a man that is separated from his wife and struggling to keep it together as he fights to see his children and be a presence in their lives. The already complicated situation is thrown further into chaos when he’s told that his wife is with a new man and his daughter pleads with her father to “fight” for them.

“The Killing of Two Lovers” stars Clayne Crawford, who is probably best known for his work in TV series “Rectify” and “Lethal Weapon.” He’s joined in the cast by Sepideh Moafi, Chris Coy, Avery Pizzuto, Arri Graham, and Ezra Graham. The film marks the feature debut for writer-director Robert Machoian, who previously won the Short Film Special Jury Award for Directing at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.

Here’s the short synopsis for the feature:

The Killing of Two Lovers follows David, who desperately tries to keep his family of six together during a separation from his wife, Nikki. They both agree to see other people but David struggles to grapple with his wife’s new relationship.

We were able to catch “The Killing of Two Lovers” when it played at Sundance earlier this year. And in our review, we said, “Its message is timeless. Its performances? Flawless. And if ‘The Killing of Two Lovers’ can be described as anything more than a must-see film, it can best be defined as a cautionary tale dedicated to the fragility of the family structure in the United States, a showcase of a radically talented filmmaker and a dedication to the painful reality of love.”

“The Killing of Two Lovers” is set to be released, courtesy of NEON, on February 23, 2021. You can see the new trailer below.
