Fresh on the heels of Emma Stone wining Best Actress at the Oscars “Poor Things,” Yorgos Lanthimos‘ next picture now has an official release date. Searchlight Pictures announced today that “Kinds Of Kindness” will hit theaters this summer on June 21. Yup, that’s about half a year between two Lanthimos films (with possibly something else coming swiftly after this).

There’s much still under wraps about “Kinds Of Kindness,” but Lanthimos teased its structure in an interview with this January. “It’s a contemporary film, set in the US – three different stories, with four or five actors who play one part in each story, so they all play three different parts,” described the Greek writer-director. “It was almost like making three films, really. But it’s great to be working again with Emma. It makes it so much easier to have someone there who trusts you so much, and who you trust so much.”
“Kinds Of Kindness” will be the fourth time Stone and Lanthimos work together, after “Poor Things,” “The Favorite,” the short film “Bleat,” and another secret project, which Lanthimos described last September as “much simpler and very different in comparison to “Poor Things” because that story needed that particular style.” No word on when Lanthimos will release the secret project, which he and Stone shot in Greece with cinematographer Robbie Ryan last year, but expect an update on it soon. And the pair will team up again soon for a remake of the Korean sci-fi black comedy “Save The Green Planet.” Lanthimos plans to shoot that project in the U.K. this summer.
But back to “Kinds Of Kindness.” Along with Stone, cast members for the upcoming film include Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie, and Hunter Schafer. Lanthimos shot the film in New Orleans in late 2022, wrapping production that December. He co-writes the film with his longtime collaborator Efthimis Filippou.
With “Poor Things,” “Kinds Of Kindness,” his secret Greek project,” and “Save The Green Planet,” audiences could potentially see four Yorgos Lanthimos movies onscreen within the next calendar year. It’s more realistic to consider “Save The Green Planet” won’t arrive until at least late 2025, but still, Lanthimos is on a tear right now, outpacing workaholics like Steven Soderbergh and Guy Ritchie.
With its new June 21 release date, expect the first trailer for “Kinds Of Kindness” soon this Spring.
