They had to of started somewhere, didn’t they? That is the premise of “The King’s Man” as we see just how the covert organization was first formed. Director Matthew Vaughn, who directed and co-wrote both “Kingsman: The Secret Service” and “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” takes the reigns for the prequel where we will see the formation of the Kingsman and how it came to be.
Before there was Eggsy (Taron Egerton), Harry (Colin Firth) and even the Statesman (don’t worry, there will be a spin-off for that one), we see how the ‘Kingsman’ took shape through two men, where they must stop some of the World’s most evil villains from killing millions. Those two men are described as master and apprentice, with Ralph Fiennes (“Skyfall”) and Harris Dickinson (“Beach Rats”).
The original teaser trailer gave us glimpses of what to expect, the cinematography and choreography can be heavily associated with the spy films. But there is that gritty feel to it, with what seems to be a much darker tone to the previous films. That’s a change of pace to the last two, which may keep audiences interested much further down the line.
Vaughn spoke to Comingsoon.net about the ‘Kingsman’ prequel, even saying this film did not have to have ‘Kingsman’ in the title. He said, “I just wanted to do my version of a big, historical adventure epic, and then I came up with the story, and then I realized it could be a ‘Kingsman’ movie, but it’s like the 15th cousin ten times removed. It’s a whole different film. I mean, this film would work even if it had nothing to do with ‘Kingsman.’”
So even the director says it will feel different to what’s been done before, but anticipate there will still be *those* fight scenes and maybe some over-the-top moments we have become used to.
With Fiennes and Dickinson, there are also roles for Daniel Brühl (“Captain America: Civil War”), Charles Dance (“Game Of Thrones”), Gemma Arterton (“Quantum Of Solace”), Djimon Hounsou (“Furious 7”) and Rhys Ifans.
Here is the synopsis:
As a collection of history’s worst tyrants and criminal masterminds gather to plot a war to wipe out millions, one man must race against time to stop them.
The film releases February 14th, 2020, and will feature as part of a 20th Century Fox panel during New York Comic-Con. Watch the new trailer below.
