With the Kristen Stewart/Rupert Sanders scandal still brewing on the edges of the tabloids — and sure to be kicked up again when Robert Pattinson makes his first public on Monday on "The Daily Show" (!?) since news of the affair broke — it seems the actress is keen to stay out of the spotlight as much as possible for the time being. Not only has she apparently pulled out of the red carpet premiere in London next Thursday for "On The Road," she is going to be staying off an upcoming movie set as well.
With the gritty indie "Cali" brewing over the past few months with Stewart as the lead star, producers will be left to find a replacement as Variety confirms a story first reported by Gossip Cop, that she has dropped out of the production. Nick Cassavetes is set to direct the film, with a start date originally slated for "late summer" (though we're pretty much there), that follows Mya, who pairs up with her boyfriend Chris to make a fake snuff film which they sell for a wad of cash before beating it out of the San Fernando Valley. Years later, she's forced to head back to save her younger sister, but to do so she will have to face a bunch of oddball characters as well as keep a handle on her relationship with Chris.
Stewart and Alex Pettyfer were originally slated to play the lead couple, but now it's rumored that Amber Heard is being sought out to replace the actress. Either way, Pettyfer is sitting pretty. No word yet if Voltage Pictures will try and stick as close to schedule as possible or push the movie back, but it will likely depend on a number of factors including who ultimately stars, scheduling and more.
