Got a Tip?

Kristen Wiig Says ‘Welcome To Me’

nullThough she received widespread critical and box office success with “Bridesmaids,” Kristen Wiig has taken her time where others most surely would have jumped at the first big paycheck. But now that Wiig has left “Saturday Night Live,” her schedule has opened up in a big way and she’s set to take advantage of that by teaming up with her “Anchorman: The Legend Continues” collaborators Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.

THR is reporting that Wiig has signed on to lead the indie comedy “Welcome to Me,” which will center on “a woman with dissociative personality disorder who wins the lottery and decides to spend her winnings on a cable access talk show about her life.” Although the above synopsis is all we have to go on, it seems that film will essentially be a one-woman show, a direct contrast to the ensemble that lead “Bridesmaids” to the top of the box office. We can’t wait to see what Wiig does with the role.

The film, which will be produced through Ferrell and McKay’s Gary Sanchez Productions, was written by Eliot Laurence, a former staff writer on something called “The Big Gay Sketch Show” for the Oxygen network, and will be directed by McKay’s wife, Shira Piven, who last helmed the 2011 indie comedy “Fully Loaded.”

There’s currently no start date set for “Welcome to Me” but you’ll be able to catch Wiig later this year in “Girl Most Likely” (formerly “Imogene”), “Despicable Me 2,” “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” and the aforementioned “Anchorman” sequel which arrives just in time for Christmas on December 20th.
