“Sons of Anarchy” holds a unique place among the early days of prestige dramas on FX. Unlike some of its mid-to-late-2000s FX brethren, such as “The Shield,” “Rescue Me,” and “Nip/Tuck,” the Kurt Sutter-created drama about bikers, guns, drugs, and family didn’t have the critical acclaim that some of the other series had. However, what ‘Sons’ does have is a rabid fanbase that is incredibly loyal. And because of that, Kurt Sutter recently teased that there could be more ‘Sons’ series in the future.
Recently, on social media, a fan asked Sutter about what might have happened to one of the characters on ‘Sons’ after the series finale. For those that don’t know, ‘Sons’ followed the story of Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam), who inherited control of a legendary biker gang and the crimes that come with it. Over the course of the series, Jax becomes a father to a son named Abel. And the fan was curious if Sutter had an idea of what happened to Abel in the future.
In his response to the question, he explained that he does have a story in mind, and it’s part of this grand vision for the ‘Sons’ franchise that began with the original series, continued with the recent spin-off, “Mayans MC,” and could continue with two more series in the future.
“I had this revelation between ‘SoA’ and ‘Mayans,’ that the ‘SoA’ mythology would be four shows. ‘Sons of Anarchy,’ ‘Mayans M.C.,’ ‘First Nine,’ and ‘Sam Crow.’ ‘First Nine’ would be a limited series. Nine episodes. It would end before we began to tread on history we created in
‘Sons.’ ‘Sam Crow’ would be the fate of Wendi, Nero, Abel and Thomas.”

As for the likelihood that Sutter’s ultimate vision will play out? He added, “I can’t discuss my current situation with Fox, so right now I can’t comment on the reality of any of this happening.”
That may be a bit of a surprising comment from a man that is no stranger to speaking his mind. So, perhaps we can take that as a bit of optimism that more ‘Sons’-inspired series will be coming in the future? Clearly, FX is happy with how ‘Mayans’ is faring, considering its a series that continues to air on the network. And we know that “First Nine” is something that has been in development for years.
For now, ‘Sons’ fans just need to be patient and see how it all plays out.
