Once upon a time, before Warner Bros. shuffled around their 2025 theatrical release calendar, “Freakier Friday” was set to face off against Paul Thomas Anderson‘s “One Battle After Another” on its opening weekend. That was a formidable opponent, but now Disney‘s sequel has a new one: Zach Cregger‘s horror epic, “Weapons.”

Is that better or worse for this Jamie Lee Curtis/Lindsay Lohan vehicle? “Freakier Friday” will corner the family-friendly spectrum of general audiences on August 8 when it opens, but “Weapons” has built a strong hype train since its first trailer dropped. But now “Freakier Friday” has a new trailer out, and it may be the last one Disney unveils before the film hits theaters…
Here’s an official synopsis for “Freakier Friday,” courtesy of Disney:
In the film, Curtis and Lohan reprise their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman. The story picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.
Along with Curtis and Lohan, “Freakier Friday” also stars Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, Mark Harmon, and Chad Michael Murray. Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Ryan Malgarini, Lucille Soong, and Rosalind Chao also star. Jordan E. Cooper, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Vanessa Bayer, and Dakota Lohan round out the main cast.
Nisha Ganatra directs a screenplay by Jordan Weiss, based on characters created by Mary Rodgers. Kristen Burr, Andrew Gunn, and Curtis produce “Freakier Friday,” with Nathan Kelly, Ann Marie Sanderlin, and Lohan on board as executive producers.
Who will win the August 8 box office stand-off between “Freakier Friday” and “Weapons”? General audiences will find out later this summer. In the meantime, watch the new trailer for the sequel below.
