Got a Tip?

Kyle MacLachlan Talks Potential ‘Twin Peaks’ Season 4: “That Is In The Mind Of David Lynch”

At the end of 2019, many pundits and outlets released their Best of the Decade lists, highlighting the very greatest films of the past 10 years. And surprisingly, on some of the lists, David Lynch’s third season of “Twin Peaks” ranked highly. No, not as a series, but actually as a film. While Season 3 was clearly released as a series, many saw the way that it was split into episodes as more of a convenience for releasing it and less of a necessity, as the entire show feels like one long film. But regardless of whether it’s a film or series, the discussion about Season 3 once again ignited many folks’ desire for another batch of episodes from Lynch.

Well, in a new interview with IndieWire, “Twin Peaks” star Kyle MacLachlan talked about Season 3 and whether or not another season is actually in the cards. And while he’s more than willing to talk about how great it was to work on ‘The Return,’ he’s not so willing to speculate about any new episodes coming in he future.

“We were all really excited,” MacLachlan said. “The high point for me was being invited to Cannes with David Lynch and they showed the first two episodes as if it was a film. We had that experience. I’ll never have it again. I couldn’t believe it. And I was standing there with my good friend David Lynch. It’s in an experience I’ll cherish forever.”

As for whether or not a Season 4 is in the cards, MacLachlan is hardly forthcoming. He laughed and said, “That is in the mind of David Lynch, where it stays hidden.”

Surprisingly, this year is also going to feature more MacLachlan/Lynch discussion thanks to the forthcoming remake of Frank Herbert’s classic novel “Dune,” coming to theaters courtesy of director Denis Villeneuve. As you are probably well aware, MacLachlan teamed with Lynch on the 1984 adaptation of “Dune,” which was a box office disappointment but has grown a cult following over the years.

So, it shouldn’t be too much of a shock to learn that the actor is really excited about seeing this year’s big-budget remake of “Dune.”

“I’m excited to see it,” said MacLachlan.

And even though MacLachlan famously starred in Lynch’s version of the film, he isn’t going to be featured in Villeneuve’s upcoming remake, not even in a cameo.

“No,” he said. “But I’m looking forward to seeing what Timothee [Chalamet] does with the role. I think it’s going to be an interesting interpretation with a great filmmaker.”
