'Last Christmas' Trailer: Emilia Clarke Is Not In The Christmas Spirit In Paul Feig’s Festive Rom-Com

It is the most wonderful time of the year, well depending on who you ask. We are in September and we now have another trailer for “Last Christmas.”

The film is directed by Paul Feig, who has done films like “Bridesmaids” and “Spy,” has teamed up with “Game Of ThronesEmilia Clarke. Feig has got Clarke to dress like a jolly Christmas elf in a holiday store, but her character Kate is really bah-humbug down on her luck.

But as luck would have it, her fortunes start to change when she meets Tom (played by Henry Golding from “Crazy Rich Asians”) who she sees as someone who may just turn her luck around. In the first trailer, it is alluded to that Kate had a life-threatening illness and her life went into a downward spiral, so could meeting Tom really help her put her life back together?

It seems that Feig has not gone with the conventional ‘boy meets girl’ and then relationship blossoms with mishaps along the way, but instead a story about love, but also someone trying to fix themselves. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Feig spoke of what attracted him to writer Emma Thompson’s (“Love Actually” and also has a starring role) holiday film.

He said, “it’s not necessarily about, ‘I’ve gotta find a husband, I’ve gotta find someone to complete my life,’” Feig continued, “I much more like movies about people who have to straighten their own lives out, and then once they do, then the real prize at the end of the film is that you’ve actually fixed your life and put yourself in a better place.”

The film is inspired by the late George Michael (lead singer of WHAM!) and his music will feature prominently throughout. Michael was aware of the film, with Thompson having got his blessing when she started the script.

Alongside Clarke, Golding and Thompson will be Michelle Yeoh (“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”), Sue Perkins (“The Great British Bake Off) and Ingrid Oliver (“Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging”).
