'Last Christmas' Trailer: Paul Feig’s English Holiday Tale With Emilia Clarke

We are in the midst of summer, but we are already talking about the holidays with Paul Feig’s latest film, “Last Christmas.” One of the big draws for the film will be none other than ‘Game of Thrones’ star Emilia Clarke, who has swapped her three dragons and Khaleesi title for a pair of elf ears as she becomes one of Santa’s Little Helpers in a department store.

Feig, who has directed films such as “Spy” and “Ghostbusters,” is no stranger to delivering a great romantic comedy. His 2011 film “Bridesmaids” starring Kristen Wiig bagged a fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 90%.

The film is named after the holiday hit by WHAM! and the late George Michael gave Emma Thompson (who has written and stars in ‘Last Christmas’) his blessing when she started writing the script years ago.

Feig was aware of this, and said to Entertainment Weekly, “The great sadness is that he’s not here to be a part of this.” He continued, “But he knew it was going to happen, and that gives me such joy. We feel like he’s here with us.”

Michael died on Christmas Day back in 2016, but would be happy to know the film is set in his home city of London, with locations such as Covent Garden, Piccadilly Circus, and Regent Street all featuring in their bright Christmas decorations.

Alongside Clarke and Thompson, the film will star Henry Golding (“Crazy Rich Asians” and another Feig film “A Simple Favor”) as Clarke’s love interest. While there is also a role for former “Great British Bake Off” presenter Sue Perkins.
