'The Last Laugh' Trailer: Chevy Chase & Richard Dreyfuss Are Geriatric Funny Guys In New Netflix Comedy

Imagine it’s 1981. There’s a new film on the horizon starring Chevy Chase and Richard Dreyfuss. That’s pretty incredible right? The star of “National Lampoon’s Vacation” and the star of “Jaws” teaming up in a film? Sign me up! Alas, it’s almost 2019 and Chase and Dreyfuss are far from their respective heydays.

In the new trailer for the Netflix film “The Last Laugh,” we see the older, grayer versions of Chase and Dreyfuss as they play a talent manager and a former comedian client, respectively. As they are knee deep in their twilight years, the two decide now is the time to kickstart their careers and make it big.

Honestly, “The Last Laugh” doesn’t look like the type of film that is going to convince Netflix detractors that the streaming service is the home for quality filmmaking. It’s readily apparent by the footage in the trailer that this film is closer to the Adam Sandler side of the Netflix spectrum than the Alfonso Cuaron/Coen Brothers end.

Joining Chase and Dreyfuss in the cast are some comedy mainstays including Chris Parnell, Kate Micucci, and Andie MacDowell. The film is written and directed by Greg Pritikin, who has previously worked on the film “Monster of the House” and wrote a segment for the debacle known as “Movie 43.”

“The Last Laugh” hits Netflix on January 11, 2019. Brace yourselves.

Here’s the synopsis:

When retired talent manager Al Hart is reunited with his first client, Buddy Green, a comic who quit show business 50 years ago, he convinces Buddy to escape their retirement community and hit the road for a cross-country comedy tour.
