Noah Baumbach‘s next project for Netflix is shaping up to be one of Hollywood’s buzziest upcoming projects. Deadline reports that Laura Dern, Billy Crudup, and Riley Keough join previously cast George Clooney and Adam Sandler for the still-untitled film. It’s Crudup and Keough’s first time working with Baumbach (as it is with Clooney), but a reunion between the writer-director and Dern (as it is with Sandler). Dern starred in Baumbach’s 2019 film “Marriage Story,” with her performance winning her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
As for plot details, the story for the pic remains under wraps, but it’s described as a coming-of-age film for adults. Here’s what else we know about the project, though: Baumbach co-writes the script with Emily Mortimer, with Baumbach also producing with Amy Pascal and David Heyman. And the film is part of Baumbach’s exclusive deal with Netflix, which has already graced audiences with “Marriage Story,” “The Meyerowitz Stories (New And Selected),” and “White Noise,” Baumbach’s latest feature. Rumors of this project first popped up in January 2023, with Sandler and Brad Pitt apparently attached. But Clooney replaced Pitt on the cast list when the film was officially announced last December.
Dern stars next in the Apple TV+ series “Palm Royale” with Kristen Wiig and Rickey Martin, with the show premiering on March 20. Other recent work for the actress includes the 2022 drama “The Son” with Hugh Jackman. As for Crudup, he’s also been busy on Apple TV+ with “The Morning Show” and “Hello Tomorrow!” Meanwhile, Keough received high grades for her performance in the Prime Video series “Daisy And The Six,” which earned her an Emmy nod. Up next for the actress? “Sasquatch Sunset,” which just had a buzzy world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.
Stay tuned for more info on Baumbach’s latest Netflix feature, which still needs a title, an official logline, and maybe a few more cast members.
