'The Letter For The King' Trailer: Netflix Puts A YA Spin On The Fantasy Genre

Can the fantasy epic survive without “Game of Thrones?” The genre itself seems to be at an inevitable crossroads as the popular series based on George R.R. Martin’s bestselling books finished up last year. Netflix is making a bid to control the next generation of genre fans and give epics a dose of longevity with “The Letter for the King.” Much like Martin’s series, this six-part adventure comes from a popular novel with Dutch roots.

This first look highlights the expected medieval aspects while giving younger viewers a new set of heroes to revere. Vast scenery is still on full display as the leads venture towards their inevitable destinies. Amir Wilson heads up the series as Tiuri. The actor is no stranger to the fantasy genre; “His Dark Materials” is a great way to see what he’s capable of bringing to this Netflix Original.

The official synopsis:

The Letter for the King is the story of a ruthless prince who threatens to cast the world into darkness, when a young knight in training named Tiuri embarks on an epic quest to deliver a secret letter to the king. Along the way, he unexpectedly finds himself at the center of a magical prophecy foretelling the rise of a hero who can defeat the prince and restore peace. If he’s going to survive the journey, Tiuri will have to learn what it means to be a true knight — and a true leader.

The Filmwave production also stars Ruby Serkis, Gjis Blom, and Thaddea Graham. Watch the series’s first trailer below.
