You can probably thank “The Fault In Our Stars” for kickstarting this trend in recent years, but Hollywood has seemingly been in love with the idea of a YA film focused on a new love affair between teens that is interrupted by one of their terminal illnesses. And that’s grabbing the baton this year from films like ‘Stars,’ “Then Came You,” and “Five Feet Apart” is the upcoming film “Life in a Year.”
As seen in the trailer for the film, “Life in a Year” tells the story of two disparate teens that quickly fall in love. Things are going great until the girl tells her new boyfriend that she has a year to live due to her cancer diagnosis. So, the boy, being the over-achieving type, decides that they will live their entire romantic lives together but cram it all in a year.
The film stars Jaden Smith, Cara Delevingne, RZA, Nia Long, and Cuba Gooding, Jr. Obviously the latter three are pretty big names in the world of film. However, the stars of this one are definitely Smith and Delevingne. Smith is probably best known for his role in the remake of “The Karate Kid” when he was just a little, uh, kid. However, he’s also seen in the 2018 film, “Skate Kitchen.” Delevingne has been in a number of recent projects including “Carnival Row,” “London Fields,” “Her Smell,” and, of course, “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.”
“Life in a Year” is directed by Mitja Okorn, making his English-language feature debut. The film is co-written by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews. And if the inclusion of Jaden Smith wasn’t enough to tip it off, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith are both executive producers.
“Life in a Year” is expected to arrive on Amazon Prime Video on November 27. You can watch the trailer below.
