The story of the Norwegian Black Metal band Mayhem is a legend that anyone familiar with extreme music is probably familiar with. It’s a tale of suicide, murder, and church burnings, among other things. And that infamous story is brought to life in the new film “Lords of Chaos.”
In the first trailer for the film, you get the bare basics. The film follows a young man in early-’90s Norway as he becomes the godfather of this new style of loud, heavy metal, called Black Metal. Things are going great until his band, Mayhem, hires a bass player named Varg. From there, things go a bit off the rails as crimes are committed and the history of Black Metal is born.
“Lords of Chaos” stars Rory Culkin, Emory Cohen, Sky Ferreira, Jack Kilmer, and Valter Skarsgård. If there’s one odd thing about this film that becomes immediately apparent, its the fact that there are plenty of non-Norwegian actors playing Norwegian characters, which is…something. The film is directed by legendary music video director Jonas Åkerlund, who also co-wrote the film with Dennis Magnusson.
“Lords of Chaos” is scheduled to hit select theaters on February 8. The film will then hit your On Demand digital locations on February 22.
